WEEK OF AUGUST 27th
WHAT: This week we are finishing up our novel and moving into our CSA. WHY: Students will focus on theme and complete their understanding of a classic, gothic text. HOW: Students will do a chapter study, get into small groups and create thematic posters MONDAY: 1. Chapter 10 Worksheet TUESDAY: 1. Continue Chapter 10 Worksheet 2. Get into small groups and compare quotations WEDNESDAY: 1. Students can get into groups and create a poster over the following topics (WRITE ON BOARD): o Moral Compromise and the novel o Character focus with characteristics, 3 quotations from the novel on the poster, and a visual/drawing of the character o Advertisement for Dr. Jekyll’s potion o Movie Poster for the novel itself o Historical Focus (1800s and morals) 2. Alter Ego assignment THURSDAY: 1. Final review for book FRIDAY: 1. Full novel exam 2. CSA prep What: This week we will be getting into our first novel. Students will focus on theme and character development.
Why: To understand the text, students must unpack and study the characters so they can understand them later in the text. How: We will read independently, journal, and write about the text. Monday: 1. Reading Quiz over Chapters 1-2 2. Plot Review and character building HW: Reading Chapters 3-5 Tuesday: 1. Reading Quiz over Chapters 3-5 2. Theme Discussion 3. Dark Knight HW: 6-7 Wednesday: 1. cont. Dark Knight 2. Alter Ego Assignment Thursday: 1. Journal 2. Small Group Alter Ego 3. Reading Ch. 9-10 Friday: Quiz over text Read and respond to the following article. Summarize with evidence the important information from the article. Utilize MLA formatting when using quotations from the text and appropriate formatting. (Topic sentence, etc.) 2 Paragraphs
